Aurora
Aurora is a phenomenon of light emmision flamming on the ionosfer. This phenomenon is formed because of heat from chunk of calestial body from the sun ejected by side of the earth pole. This aurora sprout making a beautiful and colorful three dimensional image in the sky and it can be seen just in the high latitude, Arctic and Antartic regions.
In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the Aurora Borealis or the northern lights, named after the roman goddes of dawn, Aurora, and the greek name for the north wind, Boreas. The array of colors in the Aurora Borealis consist of red, blue, violet and green. But red is the dominant color. Aurora Borealis happens between March-April and August-September-October. The northern light can be seen at around midnight. Aurora occur very high up in the atmosphere, but if there are clouds in the way we will not see anything.
While in the southern latitudes, the beautiful phenomenon is called Aurora Australis or the southern lights. This aurora occure in the Antartic skies in the winter and it can be seen in clear cold nights. The common colors of Aurora Australis are pale green and pink. The most comon shapes are spiral curtains, arcs or streamer. Actually, it has almost identical features to the Aurora Borealis but sometimes the Aurora Australis appears in the top mountain in tropical climate and is visible from high southern latitudes in Antartic, South America and Australia.
Instead all of this, there are also some mythologies about aurora. There are people call the northern ligths the “Dance of the Spirits”, it means, the lights were spirits or souls dancing in the sky. In Europe, in the middle ages, the auroras were commonly believed as a sign from God. And in ancient Roman mythology, aurora is the goddess of the dawn, renewing herself every morning to fly accross the sky, announcing the arrival of the Sun.

Although Aurora looks very elegant but during periods of high activity a single auroral storm can produce one trillion watts of electricity with a current of one million amps. It can also affects Earth’s communication. The activity phase of an auroral display will last on the order of 15-40 minutes and may recur in 2 to 3 hours.
